Recently, CIAO! has added increasing community-resilience awareness to its mission goals. Through a variety of tools, CIAO! now seeks to empower and educate families and communities about the dangers of natural hazards and how to prepare and react in the face of crises.
CIAO! is a non-profit organization comprised of United States Air Force Academy cadets.* As CIAO! cadets, we research real-time service project possibilities in disaster areas around the world and work to establish local contacts in such areas, often through members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All CIAO! cadets are bilingual, speaking English and another language, and specialize in a region of the world. We use military space-available travel to reach these disaster areas. We can act wherever there are US Air Force bases in proximity.

| With a few exceptions, Military Space-Available Travel reaches any of the indicated "red zones" around the world. |
As cadets on "ordinary leave" status, we travel on military space-available flights under Category III:
"Members of the uniformed services in an ordinary or re-enlistment leave status and uniformed services patients on convalescent leave. Members on convalescent leave may not travel overseas unless their leave form is so annotated."
CIAO! cadets are eligible for Category III status for overseas travel during the USAF Academy's 4 leave periods:
- Spring Break, or late March
- Summer Break, or June/July
- Thanksgiving Break, or late November
- Winter Break, or late December
